USHUAIA, PATAGONIA, & THE GRAN CHACO
Spanning the southern end of Latin America, between Argentina and Chile, Patagonia is a succession of glaciers, steppe, rivers, fjords, coniferous forests, and lakes. Prior to the advent of colonialism, it was inhabited by and stewarded by indigenous groups such as the Tehuelche and the Mapuche that lived a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, moving in circuits from east to west. They lived by hunting guanaco and the ostrich-like ñandú and collecting food along the fjords. Though these groups have lost most of their land, fields, and waters, they have not lost their spirits and traditions.
Our Approach:
Cloud Forest Fund is currently focused on Ushuaia, the southern most tip of the Americas and supporting the Yagan families there and hopes to support other indigenous groups trying to retrieve ancestral land and spiritual sites. We have been exploring ways to support land defense in the Gran Choco of Paraguay.
Our Support:
Supporting the Yagan community to reclaim their ancestral lands in Ushuaia
