The Himalayas
The natural bio-cultural systems of the Himalayas are facing grave threats from climate change, land use change, mega dam and other infrastructural intrusions, causing the fragmentation and loss of habitats. The Himalayas must be thought of in terms of verticality.
Our Approach:
Our interventions here focus on expanding the ‘Learning Grounds’ approach of the award-winning Vertical University project of KTK-BELT, which created an 8,000-meter vertical biocultural ICCA from Koshi Tappu wetlands to Kanchenjunga. The tools and innovations of the KTK-BELT project are suited to the Himalayas. Cloud Forest Fund seeks to replicate and expand those successes in other areas of Nepal and beyond.
Our Support:
- Institutionalization of the Learning Grounds of the KTK-BELT project
- Creating a roadless biocultural heritage landscape for Musk Deer in the Karnali Zone
- General Support to Almost Heaven Farms in Ilam, eastern Nepal, working to preserve the land ethic through permaculture
- General support to Birds Nepal and Women in Conservation, supporting young women in western Nepal to engage in birding and bird conservation
