The Annamites
The karst region between Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia is home to one of the largest contiguous natural forest complexes in continental Asia, stewarded and safeguarded by rich indigenous communities. Magical species roaming the Annamites mountains, from the saola to the large-antlered muntjac, from the striped rabbit to the crested argus are threatened from snare hunting fueled by demand for wild meat, habitat encroachment, logging, and intrusion of monocultures like acacia and palm oil.
Our Approach:
Cloud Forest Fund is working to support the incredibly rich primate diversity of the Annamites which includes the grey shank douc langur, yellow-cheeked gibbons, and the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey, of which only a few hundred are left, require urgent support. We also fund and support legal land struggles of the Koi, Banong, Tay and other ethnic groups. One of the most architecturally, linguistically, and biologically rich places in the world, small interventions and policy advocacy can help keep the biocultural systems of the Annamites intact.
