Madagascar
Over 80% of the nearly 15,000 plant species in Madagascar are found nowhere else in the world. The greatest challenges have been habitat loss, drought and famine, and invasive species. In terms of the pace of deforestation, 50% of Madagascar’s forest cover was lost between 1950 and 2000. This distinctive ecology has led some to refer to Madagascar as the ‘8th continent’ of the world.
Our Approach:
We aim to develop strategies for reversing the alarming rates of deforestation and habitat loss, through the small catalytic Learning Grounds approach pioneered by KTK-BELT, as well as documenting local knowledge of elders through the Indigenous Knowledge Portal.
